Rahul Gandhi should be careful when he speaks – Supreme Court

Amaravati: The Supreme Court stayed the two-year sentence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Supreme Court. In 2019, a case was registered against Rahul Gandhi for maligning Modi’s family name while campaigning in Karnataka on the occasion of the general elections. In this case, the Surat trial court awarded a sentence of two years. The Supreme Court stayed the two-year sentence of Rahul and issued an interim order. A bench comprising Justice BR Gavai, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Sanjay Kumar took up the case on Friday. Rahul’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, while hearing the arguments, brought to the notice of the bench that BJP MLA Purnesh Modi, who had filed a defamation suit, was not originally surnamed Modi, but he adopted that surname later. They appealed to the court that this is the last chance for Rahul Gandhi to be acquitted so that he can contest the elections and attend the Parliament. On this occasion, the Supreme Court made important comments.After hearing the full arguments, the Supreme Court bench stayed the two-year sentence imposed on Rahul Gandhi by the Surat trial court.
Earlier, the Supreme Court warned Rahul Gandhi to be careful while speaking. Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification will be removed with Supreme Court’s stay.
